Edinburgh Pensioner Rescued After Three Days Trapped Beneath Floorboards

A True Tale of Survival from Right Here in Edinburgh

Good Morning

Here’s one of those stories that’s both heart-stopping and heartwarming — and it happened right here in Edinburgh.

An 85-year-old local man, Neil, was rescued this week after spending three full days trapped beneath the floorboards of his own home. He’d crawled under to inspect a pipe issue and became stuck — without food, water, or any way to call for help.

His family and neighbours became concerned when they hadn’t seen him. Eventually, emergency services were called in. Fire crews and paramedics worked together to carefully cut through the floor and free him.

The incredible part? The whole ordeal was captured as part of the latest episode of Paramedics on Scene, which aired on BBC Scotland this week. Neil was dehydrated but conscious when found and is now recovering safely.

Why It Struck a Chord:

In a world of headlines about chaos and conflict, this story reminded us:

  • How easily accidents can happen, even at home

  • How vital it is to check on neighbours — especially older ones

  • And how heroic and skilled our emergency responders truly are
